Poll Results...and friendships! :)

Hey girls! Well, as you all know we have had a poll on the side of the blog asking what y'all would like to hear more about. Turns out it's a tie between Friendships and Living out your Faith. So I'm going to be posting about Friendships a few times then I will talk about Living out your Faith.

As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father's house anymore. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.
1 Samuel 18:1-3 New King James Version

David and Jonathan have such a beautiful example of what a true friendship really is. They loved each other and cared for one another. Do you have someone who you consider a really good friend? You may, or may not. But I know all of you have friends, whether it's here on the internet or at church, whatever it is you have friends. I'm sure you all have heard the saying, to have a good friend you have to be a good friend. And it's true!

Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man,or you will learn his ways and find a snare for yourself.

Proverbs 22:24-25 New American Standard

While reading this verse I was thinking two things. First of all you don't want to have close friends that get angry and upset quickly. Because most likely when they aren't controlling their tongue, they gossip, and don't think about what they are saying. You don't want to be around that, because the more you are around that person the more you act like that. But also, you don't want to be that wrathful person the verse is talking about! When people look at me, I want them to see someone who loves God and is a good friend, not someone with a quick temper. We have to be careful not to act like that.

Wounds from a friend can be trusted. Proverbs 27:6a

Sometimes when you have a good godly friend, maybe if you are sinning they try to gently let you know. We need to be open to that kind of critisim. Sometimes it's hard to take, but it helps us become stronger Christians. You can also apply that to your parents. A lot of the time my parents will tell me something, and I am stubborn and harden my heart against their instruction. But that isn't what God wants me to do! My parents are trying to help me, and sometimes your friends are too.

A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

Be a true and faithful friend. You don't have to be super close friends with everyone. But you do need to show grace and love to others around you. Because that is what God did for us. Which is ultimately why we need to be good friends! God has been a good friend to us, even more than that! The Bible says that when we love one another, we are loving God at the same time. Don't you want to share God's love with other people?! I sure do! :) Here is what I want you all to do. Instead of just reading this and trying to be a better friend, get in God's word and read this all for yourself! Almost every verse I listed in this post was from Proverbs. Proverbs is full of many practical, God-inspired, verses that can help us in our everyday lives. Today is the first day of October, read 1 Proverb a day this month and you will have read the entire book of Proverbs! I encourage you girls to do that, and if you let it, it will really make a difference in how you act toward your friends, and everyone else!

Have a great day!!
In Christ,
Jessica :-)
