What is Love?

What do you think love is? Emotions? Feelings? Actions?

Matthew 7:12
12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 22:37

37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."

♥Love is a choice; one that you can make.

1 John 3:14

14We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.

Galatians 5:14

14The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

♥Love is a command from God.

According to Dictionary.com, an order is being told to do something without any specific guidelines and a command is being told to do something in a specific way. Love truly is a command, because the Lord tells and shows us exactly how to go about it.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Ephesians 4:2-3
2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:32
32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

♥If we are committed to love and loving others we need to make allowances for others mistakes. People will mess up, just like you will. You have to know that and be willing to forgive quickly and completely.

Wow. Love is something we have to choose every day. We can't just decide once to love someone or to be loving and we're good to go. It takes constant effort and a heart changed by Jesus Christ's love.

1 John 15:13

13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

1 Corinthians 13:13
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

In John 13 Jesus humbled himself to the lowest position. He washed His disciples feet, the job of a slave.

John 13:6-8
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"

7Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."

8"No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

We can only give what Christ has given us and only love when He has loved us.

In Christ,

Becky :)
